Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County 20/09/2024 – The National Union of Community Forestry Development Committees (NUCFDCs) has issued a heartfelt appreciation to the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) and its partners following a recent workshop held at K-Plaza Hotel. The event focused on carbon initiatives and the development of legal frameworks essential for the sustainable management of Liberia’s forest resources.
Representatives from NUCFDCs, along with community members, participated in the one-day working session, which provided critical insights into the complexities surrounding carbon policies. In their statement, the NUCFDCs highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue and collaboration in order to secure a sustainable future for both communities and forests across Liberia.
“The opportunity for our representatives to engage in this pivotal workshop has significantly enriched our understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to carbon initiatives,” the NUCFDCs expressed. “The knowledge gained will empower us to advocate more effectively for our communities’ rights and interests.”
The NUCFDCs emphasized that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the active participation of local stakeholders. They commended SDI for creating a platform where community voices can be heard and considered in the decision-making process.
Reflecting on the discussions that unfolded during the workshop, the NUCFDCs expressed their inspiration for a more inclusive approach to policy-making. They believe that prioritizing the needs and perspectives of forest and land communities is crucial for formulating equitable legal frameworks that benefit both the environment and the livelihoods of those who depend on these resources.
In a call to action, the NUCFDCs urged for continued engagement and greater community involvement in future dialogues. “Together, we can shape policies that reflect our collective aspirations and ensure that all stakeholders, especially those from vulnerable communities, are included in strategies that affect their lives and environments,” they stated.
As they concluded their message of gratitude, the NUCFDCs expressed their eagerness to strengthen partnerships with SDI and its partners in their ongoing efforts to advocate for sustainable development in Liberia.
